You can save both time and money by avoiding cockroaches entering your home or business.
Knowing where pests are located is the first and most important thing. Cockroaches are nocturnal, meaning that they seek food at night. It might take some detective work to locate the source of your cockroach infestation. Cockroaches are known to hide in cracks and crevices throughout your home. They also like to get into drains or vents.
Cockroaches are attracted to messy, unclean, and crumb-laden places. Cockroaches will live in any place that provides their three basic needs – food, water and shelter. Although cockroaches can live for up to a month without food, they need daily water. You can keep pests away by making your home without an accessible water source. When you’re done washing dishes, drain the tub, rinse the water out of the bathtub, clean the counters, and place your dish sponge in a container so pests can’t get to it. You should also check for leaks in the plumbing or dampness under your fridge.
Once you have identified the source and residence of the cockroaches it is time to prepare the pesticides. Pesticides can’t be used to eliminate all pests. The German roaches, especially, develop an immunity to pesticides over time. You will need to use the following pesticides: cockroach gel bait; boric acid, sugar; flour; roach traps; and pest repellent.
A trap made of a 4′ tall glass jar is another way to get rid cockroaches. In the bottom of the jar, add some bacon grease and a few bananas. Apply an oil jam approximately 3/4″ wide around the inside of the jar and about 1/2 inch from the top. Place the jar where there are cockroaches. They can crawl in, but they won’t be allowed to escape.
